THE HUMAN CONDITION IS TO THINK THAT WE CAN IMPROVE UPON NATURE. BREE NICHOLS ATTEMPTS TO JUSTIFY THAT URGE BY STRIVING TO MAKE OBJECTS THAT ARE BOTH BEAUTIFUL AND HIGHLY FUNCTIONAL. SKEWED CLASSICS THAT DON'T NEGATE THEMSELVES THROUGH TRENDS AND DISPOSABILITY.

HAVING SPENT HER CHILDHOOD IN THE MOUNTAINS, DENSE WOODS, AND SILVERY WEIRD BEACHES OF WASHINGTON STATE, WHERE THOSE VERY BEACHES CREPT ALMOST TO THE SHORE, DAYS WERE SPENT AMONGST THE OCEAN HONED PILES OF DRIFTWOOD AND TIDE POOL DIASPORA. FEELING THAT THE SHOCKING BEAUTY OF THOSE MOUNTAINS AND OCEANS WERE HERS, THOSE DAYS WERE ENDLESSLY SPENT BUILDING AND MANIPULATING THE WORLD AROUND HER.

NOW, IN HER STUDIO IN CLINTON HILL, BROOKLYN SHE SCULPTS OBJECTS THAT CONTINUE TO TAKE THEIR CUES FROM NATURAL OBJECTS TOUCHED BY THE HUMAN HAND.
